I want to first and foremost give a huge shout out to Jenn (Dellow now I suppose) for somewhat twisting my arm to go visit Vienna. For after a day in Vienna I’m head over heels in love with place. Palaces, gardens, and sweets really what’s not to love?

We started the day rather late having slept in then lazing about in our own room, a luxury for backpackers. By the time we were ready to head out it was 11 already so we decided to head to schonbrunn instead of the city center. On the way to the ubahn we stopped for some pastries in a nearby bakery where I attempted to have my german understood. Not too surprising they automatically started to speak English right after I got out “ein afelstreutel bitte”. I guess my german isn’t as good as I had hoped, oh well. The stuff we got was very yummy though!

Schonbrunn is the summer palace of Maria Theresa, Sissi and some other Austrian king whose name escapes me. The first thing that really struck us was how big the place was. The next thing was how pretty the gardens were. Since it was rather nice when we got there we decided to first walk the garden before checking out the palace itself, just in case it starts raining we’ll still have something fun to do. I’m going to leave Brit to discuss the gardens as that was his favorite part. All I have to say about it was it was very big and impressively kept and gave me plenty of imageries to use in my future princess fantasies. It was too bad I wasn’t wearing a dress to prance around in.
Later that night we made a very nice dinner of prosuitto and brie cheese sandwiches. At this point I’m definitely missing veggies.
